Created a travel app which will include designs of icons and illustrations appropriate for my chosen subject and target audience.
I wanted my travel app to be a convenience app for people travelling in areas they are unfamiliar with. This app will be able to locate near-by services they may be in need of, including toilets, fuel, tyre services, coffee or even a place to pull over and sleep. This app is aimed towards people who have to commute to work.
My inspiration for this app mostly came from my dad, who drives lorries throughout the country. Dad finds it particularly hard to find places to pull over that has suitable facilities for larger vehicles, therefore I think this app would come in very useful. This meant that I had a focus audience of mostly males, making it easier for me to have a style of design to focus on.
I started to research apps which have similar motives, but I also included screens which appealed to me visually. I had two main initial sources for inspiration before I choose which designers to focus on.
After the research was complete, I then decided to start drawing out the wireframes, which were then followed by high resolution mockups, which I created on Adobe XD. After feedbacks and advice from my lecturers I took on board some of the advice. I focused on ensuring that all of the buttons were correctly placed to ensure a best user experience.
I really enjoyed this project, as I loved how creative it allowed me to be. I did a good job at coming up with a unique idea. I think my strengths lie in keeping my designs looking consistent and professional. I took on board all of the feedback given in the group critique and made some adjustments. I think that with the help of these comments my app finally looks finished and I have achieved what I wanted.
Looking forward, I can be assured that app development is definitely an area I would be interested in working in. I love the process of developing wireframes and the excitement of having ideas and allowing them to be shown. I know I have a lot I could improve on, for example improving my awareness of how the user will be interacting with the app. Positioning of buttons etc. is something I would like to look more into in my free time, however I know the best way for these skills to develop is with confidence and experience, which will come naturally in time.
