I decided to carry out an initial survey before beginning to design anything. This will help me to gather valuable insights and inform design decisions. It will help to validate any assumptions I might have and give me a more specific target audience.
My user survey was based on the expectations vs reality of owning a dog. Here are the questions that I planned to ask: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sCh_RGBtxb937q-tqmEz8PbM1SgThtoKah5MzHyrHbQ/edit#heading=h.g3akrcbnrscz

I decided to break the survey down into 6 sections…
This way I would be able to engage potential users, giving them a sense of involvement in the process. I think it will also be a great way to identify any potential issues. This data will help me make more informed decisions. The quantitative basis makes the data more reliable. If I can get enough responses I think that this survey could improve the overall effectiveness of the design process and increase my likelihood of creating a product that resonates with my target audience.
I built my survey on Google Forms. This is a great tool which made the building process so simple and it was even easier to share. I also got some great feedback from contributors stating that the survey was straightforward to complete.
