I found this really interesting podcast called ‘The Dog Scholar’. Hosted by Dr Sabrina Cohen, a dog-obsessed neuroscientist researching human and animal learning mechanisms, the podcast discusses all of the incredible discoveries and findings science is unveiling about man’s best friend.

Co-hosts Danny Wells and Jamie Penrith are also dog trainers and behaviour experts. They know what they’re talking about and the topics they discuss will give you a much better understanding of your dog if you own one already.

The episode I chose to listen to was ‘Do dogs morph into their owners?’. I thought this episode might be relevant to my app, as I am trying to understand the best way to make sure a dog and owner are compatible with each other. This episode discussed how we all notice uncanny resemblances between certain dogs and their owners. They discussed if this was accurate or if this was just the human mind making it seem this way. Do we just want that to be true?

Studies have uncovered that some personality traits may influence how our dogs act. For example, if a dog owner is lazy and does not care to take their dog on walks, eventually that dog learns the habits and routine of their owner, so, of course, they are going to become lazy.

The podcast took a more humorous approach to the topic which was enjoyable. I think the main thing I learned from it is that whatever you do, eg. train or don’t train your dog, this is the outcome you are going to get. I have listened to a couple of more episodes which unveil things such as, ‘Does your dog actually love you?’. It is a really good podcast which also highlights the importance of how you treat your animal - I highly recommend it.
